It’s spring, and that means recruitment season for most independent schools in the US. Of course for every position for which we recruit, we attach a job description outlining the various tasks and expectations. However, as I’ve meandered through various positions in a school from teacher to administrator, I find that nailing down a job description for an administrator to be laughably difficult.
Of course there are the common phrases that you’ll find on any administrator job description:
- Lifelong learner,
- Educational leader
- Disciplinarian
- Mentor
But at the end of the day, does a job description really do your job justice? This question made me think of a few descriptors that could be used to describe my job.
They include:
marriage counselor, police officer, firefighter, teacher, singer, songwriter, poet, mom, dad, psychologist, learning specialist, MC, inspirational speaker, chaplain, student, nurse, doctor, IT technician, referee, private investigator, diplomat, secretary, friend, boss, researcher, counselor, movie producer,
